Design/build construction company specialized in Hewn Log cabins and Timber Framing. Responsibilities included all aspects of small business operations, not limited to: advertising, payroll, taxes, sales, design, architectural rendering, code planning, employee management, scheduling, permitting, delivery, OTR delivery, equipment maintenance, project management, client retention, B2B relations, collections, accounts management, etc.

Crew Lead, McRaven Restorations; Free Union, Virginia — 2002-2003
Hired as a general carpenter promoted to crew and project lead with in 8 weeks. Position tasks: working with clients to restore their antique log cabins; also training, directing and working with diverse crews to complete these projects. Areas of specialty included: stone masonry, general residential concrete, heavy timber joinery, finish carpentry, cabinetry, traditional roofing, etc.

Self Employed Carpenter; River Falls, Wisconsin — 2002
Took on various remodeling and carpentry projects in areas such as western Wisconsin, Florida, Virginia and Ontario, Canada. Worked independently pursuing projects, estimating, planning, purchasing, executing installations and invoicing.

General Building: solid stone masonry construction — foundations, retaining walls, chimneys, veneer; general concrete forming, pouring and finishing; elevation surveying; platform/stick construction techniques; wood shake and hand seamed metal roofing; stair building; flooring install and refinish; custom window and door construction; cabinetry.

Carpentry: TF scribe joinery layout, TF rule of square joinery layout, adept with all traditional tools — broad axe, adze, etc., modern portable power tools — chain mortiser, 12” planer, beam saw, etc., experienced in all facets and phases of conventional platform construction and remodeling.

Design: knowledge of timber joinery techniques, residential frame design, load and stress calculations in frame design, Appalachian log and timber traditions, Upper Canada log and timber traditions, modern timber design techniques.

Computer Experience: MacIntosh OS and Windows XP, Google’s Sketch Up Pro 7, Google’s Layout, Kerkythea, iWork suite, iLife suite, Office XP.

Interests

Beyond the delight found in time spent with my wife and three sons, I enjoy wilderness backpacking, reading, design and building of original furniture, and invariably repairing and riding a late model Honda 500 street motorcycle.
